The Heart Failure Clinic at Finchley Memorial hospital and Royal Free hospital allows patients with symptoms of heart failure who do not have a pre-existing diagnosis to have all the diagnostic tests they need and to see a cardiologist in one location on the same day .

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusions

  • registered with a Barnet or Camden GP
  • must have had an NT-proBNP test with a level above 2,000
  • new possible heart failure 

Exclusions

  • already under the Royal Free London cardiology service
  • no new NT-proBNP test
  • no suspected heart failure diagnosis.

For new patients with suspected heart failure

Only if NTproBNP is >2000 ng/L should you book an urgent appointment with the One Stop Clinic (aiming for review within two weeks).

If NTproBNP is between 400-2000 ng/L, patients should be seen in the heart failure clinic within six weeks. GPs can book a direct-access echo for these patients, as they will not get an echo on the day.
